Ok, so Tenacious D's site isn't exactly heavenly, but it does have some noteworthy elements: tenaciousd.com
Navigation
At first I didn't go for the unconventional nav because I was too busy looking for the buttons in a standard format. However, it became clear once I clicked on one of the navigation options that it is set up as a full-page, scrolling layout. Ordinarily this would be aggravating to me, but the site is bailed out by its most abundant element: the background imagery.
Site Imagery
The main reason all the scrolling is not only tolerable but also enjoyable is that there are dozens of comic book styled panels with various D imagery. From movie poster stills to promotional photos to portraits of Cage and Jables, there is enough to look at to keep the user occupied beyond what lies behind the actual navigation.
Video Integration
One design element integrated into the background that pushes the site even further is the inclusion of video clips amidst the panels of comic stills. Since this is how the fans are used to seeing them - in motion - it is a thoughtful touch to add that to the mix of images and pages.
While the site does have some issues of unfinished sections and slowdown on older machines, it definitely provides enough content and visual pop to make up for its shortcomings. Unless you're not a fan of The D, in which case you probably should have stopped reading by now. And if you haven't, I can only assume that you've fallen asleep at your machine and are ruining your keyboard with sleep-slobber.
